Current Conflict
The millenia long feud between the Sunni and Shia Muslims still rages on today just as strong as it did one thousand years ago. This can be easily seen in the Islamic radical group, ISIS or ISIL. This group of Sunni Muslims is strictly anti-Shia. The primary reason they decided to fight for power was to not only expel US forces, but to murder all the Shia Muslims. All across the world Sunni Muslims make up the majority. In almost every prominent Muslim country, the Shia’s are persecuted or discriminated against.
In Egypt 2013, four Shia Muslims were lynched by Sunni Muslims. In Jordan 2005, a Sunni suicide bomber killed 150 Shia Muslims. In Yemen 2015, two suicide bombers attacked two Shia mosques and killed around 140 Shia Muslims. Overall, the modern conflict that still rages between the Sunni and Shia Muslims has only grown stronger over the years. It most likely will not stop for many years to come either.
